My Story

Hi, I’m Rebecca. This blog marks the beginning of a story I’ve carried quietly for years. 

If you’ve ever felt yourself shrinking under uncontrollable events, self‑doubt, or the moments that fracture your sense of safety or self, you’ll recognise this terrain.

For a long time, I kept those feelings tucked away, as most of us do. Eventually, the weight of holding everything in can become overwhelming, confusing and life can feel tangled, showing up in all aspects of our health, decisions and wellbeing.

Experiences, stress and old emotions can stick and show up as ill health dwindling wellbeing rooted in the nervous system. 

Deepak Chopra once described emotion as energy‑in‑motion something we feel, process, and move through. But sometimes that energy gets stuck, looping old experiences we can’t easily shift.

When I finally chose to work on this within myself, I wasn’t searching for labels or quick fixes. I wanted to understand the why, the what, the how. I wanted to be seen as a whole human being.

That path led me to NLP, meditation, breathwork, and eventually Reiki practices that softened the armour I’d built and made space for understanding, connection, and curiosity to return.

And now, writing from a sunlit balcony in Sydney, here’s what I know: transformation doesn’t always arrive loudly. Often it begins in the quietest moments. Reiki didn’t “fix” me, it helped me find my way back to myself, and to a way of seeing the world, and science, with renewed wonder.

Reiki works in the background, soothing the nerves and realigning the deeper self.

What is Reiki? A Gentle Introduction

At its heart, Reiki is a Japanese practice that taps into a universal life force (“ki”) flowing through all living beings, plants and cell structures. It’s not about mysticism, but about connection between body and mind, science and spirit, logic and intuition.

When our energy is balanced, we might feel:

  • Calm, clear-headed, and emotionally steady
  • Gently energized, grounded, and creative
  • Deeply connected within ourselves, with others, and with nature
  • Physically well and resilient, open-hearted, and restored

When our energy is blocked or depleted, we might feel:

  • Anxious, tired, or overwhelmed
  • Indecisive, foggy, or stuck in repetitive patterns
  • Disconnected, restless, or irritable
  • Tense, emotionally numb, or unable to fully relax

Think of energy like a river, when it flows freely, life feels easier. When blocked, things can feel stagnant, rapid or “off.”

How Reiki Supports Us

You might wonder: how can Reiki help? Here are some of the most common ways people use it to support their wellbeing:

  • Relief from stress and anxiety
  • Emotional healing (grief, life challenges, trauma) 
  • Overcoming fatigue, burnout, and sleep trouble
  • Soothing headaches, muscle tension, digestive discomfort
  • Finding balance during life changes and transitions
  • Clearing creative or spiritual blockages
  • Feeling grounded and clear during big decisions
  • Energetic reset after intense experiences

Reiki doesn’t label, judge or analyse you; it meets you exactly where you are, offering comfort and support, whatever you’re navigating.

What Science Says

Let’s bring in the science. Research is growing, and while Reiki isn’t meant to replace medical care, studies show it can have real benefits:

  • Activates the relaxation response, reducing stress
  • Improves heart rate variability—a marker of resilience
  • Helps with anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation
  • Reduces pain and fatigue in clinical settings
  • Supports better sleep and overall wellbeing

A recent 2023 review found measurable differences between Reiki and placebo showing moderate to high effectiveness in reducing stress and improving heart health. Additional studies highlight Reiki’s potential to ease burnout, chronic pain, and mood challenges.

While more research is needed, the trend is clear: Reiki may offer more than a placebo, and millions of people worldwide report feeling calmer, clearer, and more at ease after a session.

Emerging Science of Coherence

Neuroscience is uncovering how practices like meditation and Reiki influence the brain and nervous system—not just emotionally, but biologically. EEG and MRI studies show shifts into relaxed alpha and theta brain wave states during sessions, while emerging research in epigenetics suggests these changes may even affect gene expression linked to stress, immunity, and emotional resilience. As science explores consciousness and subtle energy, it’s beginning to validate what energetic practitioners have long known: tuning the mind-body field can spark profound transformation.

Psychological research shows Reiki can reduce anxiety, depression, and emotional stress—especially when paired with therapy. Studies reveal it outperforms placebo and helps regulate the nervous system, fostering emotional integration and relaxation. As psychology embraces holistic approaches, Reiki is emerging as a gentle tool for restoring mind-body coherence, where emotional awareness and physiological balance align to support restoration and healing.

Energy Body Exploration and energy healing are beginning to align.Kirlian photography shows the glow of an object’s energy field, while SQUID technology measures the body’s biomagnetic signals with precision. Both affirm what Reiki and sound healing suggest: we are vibrational beings, and tuning our energetic field—through intention, frequency, or touch—can restore harmony. Ancient systems like Ayurveda call this prana, the life force flowing through all living things. Studies show our energy field can respond to our wellbeing retracting in stress and encompassing the space around us as we feel aligned and balanced. 

The Quantum Body Biology

 

 The “quantum body” suggests we’re not just biochemical beings, but also shaped by quantum processes—fields, vibrations, and entanglements that influence healing and perception. Science is exploring this through quantum biology, where effects like tunneling (particles passing through barriers, as seen in enzyme reactions) and entanglement (instant connection between particles across space) are being studied in living systems.

 

These discoveries hint that the body may function as a coherent quantum system, where energy, intention, and biology interact in ways that bridge holistic healing with modern physics. It’s a new lens on mind-body coherence—one that sees the self as both matter and wave, structure and signal..

Reconnecting with Nature: The Forgotten Foundation

Nature moves with a quiet intelligence—tides, moon cycles, animal migrations, plant rhythms. We’re part of this same living dance, but modern life can break our natural rhythm.

Reiki helps us remember and return to this flow. When we reconnect with nature’s cycles, we sleep better, regulate emotions more easily, reduce stress, and spark creativity. This is more than coincidence—it’s coherence.

Healing in Harmony Bridging Nature Wisdom and Science

As science begins to map the subtle rhythms of brainwaves, bio magnetic fields, and quantum interactions, it hints at something profound: that we may be more than chemistry—we may be coherence in motion. Practices like Reiki and meditation, once seen as purely spiritual, are now being studied for their potential to influence biology, energy, and even gene expression. In this emerging space between physics and healing, we’re invited to reimagine the body not just as matter, but as a field of possibility—where tuning into our inner frequency might unlock new dimensions of health, awareness, and connection with the natural world.
